With all the changes happening this year, outdoor adventures and road trips have become some of the safest and most exciting ways to explore. Whether you’re dreaming about future travels or planning a road trip for this summer, Canada offers endless possibilities to add to your list. Having had the privilege to live in different parts of this beautiful country over the past nine years, we’ve explored from coast to coast and discovered some of the best places to visit in Canada. While it’s impossible to see everything in one trip, I recommend choosing a few highlights at a time to fully enjoy the experience.

Canada is a vast and diverse country, offering endless opportunities for exploration. From vibrant cities to stunning natural landscapes, there’s always something new to discover, and you’ll likely find yourself wanting to return again.

While Canada’s cities are full of life, they never feel overwhelming, thanks to the friendly and welcoming nature of Canadian culture. Known for being one of the safest countries in the world, you can wander at any time of day or night.

After sunset, cities like Toronto and Vancouver light up with energy, as bustling restaurants, lively bars, and scenic waterfronts come alive under the glow of city lights.

1. Banff National Park

It’s no surprise that Banff tops the list of must-visit places in Canada. If you’re only able to visit one location, this should be your top choice. Surrounded by towering mountains and crystal-clear glacial lakes, every direction you turn offers a breathtaking view. Banff is home to countless lakes, peaks, and endless adventures, making it a dream destination for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. Whether you’re hiking, kayaking, or simply taking in the scenery, Banff offers an unforgettable experience at every turn.

2. Cape Breton Island

Cape Breton Island offers a refreshing escape into nature. A unique blend of rich history, stunning landscapes, and charming fishing villages both old and new, this is a place where life slows down, allowing you to soak in every moment. Known for having the highest tides on the planet, the Bay of Fundy is truly one of the 7 Wonders of North America. During low tide, you can walk along the ocean floor and marvel at the exposed seabed. As the tide rises, watch in awe as the water surges up to a towering 16 meters. But don’t just watch the tide, experience it! As the tide rushes back in, it fills the rivers that drain at low tide, creating a “tidal bore” that forms temporary rapids. Here, you can hop on a white water rafting tour and ride the waves! It’s an exciting sight as tidal bore adventurers race up and down the chocolate-brown river in motorized zodiacs. Each summer, when they are in full bloom, the park hosts a festival dedicated to celebrating this vibrant display of nature. It’s a wonderful spot for anyone looking to enjoy both the stunning landscapes and the colorful beauty of the wildflowers.

16. Gaspé Peninsula

Looking for an off-the-beaten-path adventure? Consider taking a road trip to the stunning Gaspé Peninsula. Named by National Geographic as one of Canada’s “Places of a Lifetime,” the Gaspésie offers breathtaking mountain and seaside views, along with the charm of quaint Quebecois towns. You can explore one of its four national parks, admire the famous Percé Rock, hike to the summit of 1,000-meter peaks, or experience the sights and sounds of the world’s largest accessible northern gannet colony.
